Living the Chiropractic Lifestyle E-mail
Many of us know what a “healthy lifestyle” may consist of, many of us find it hard to do the things that are necessary to live and maintain the healthy lifestyle. I understand that in today’s society we all want the quick fix. We want the most results with the least amount of effort.

I am here to tell you that it is not possible, and even more so when it comes to your health. We as a society are plagued with ads that promise you everything while you do almost nothing. We have been brainwashed into thinking that less is more. It is a lie. Should athletes be the only ones to eat well, exercise everyday and do what it takes to stay in top shape to play a sport for our entertainment? Why should they do everything it takes to be in peak performance health? Is it because they get paid millions of dollars? Well, maybe that is the case, but more importantly because they realize that without their health they could not do what they are getting paid to do and live the life that their health has given them. But how much more important is our health to us?

Although we might not make the money some of these athletes do, don’t we have obligations just as important and lives just as exciting? Aren’t our families and friends the most valuable parts of our lives? Shouldn’t we be healthy so that our lives can be filled with memorable times of joy, happiness and laughter? Not ones filled with memories of missed birthdays, weddings and ceremonies because we were sick or in pain.I would like everyone to understand that your life is important.

Your life is valuable and full of promise and excitement, but if you are not healthy life can seem like it is not worth living. As a chiropractor I believe that having a nervous system that functions free of any interference to be the foundation of a healthy functioning individual, but as you already know, that is not enough. The choices you make outside of the office will profoundly impact your health, your life and future.

Please consider the information as only guidelines. These recommendations can be altered to your lifestyle depending on current state of health. If you have any questions please, do not hesitate to ask. We are here to help you achieve the life you are capable of having, a life that is pain free, drug free, full of energy, passion and hope. Miguel Park, DC.

LAWS THAT GOVERN LIFE
Health is a natural state of being. Everything in nature that has life is capable of healing itself. Human beings have this innate ability to heal themselves. Every system within the human being is self regulating. Every system is controlled by the nervous system.

Chiropractic is a health science built upon principles whose purpose is to maintain proper communication between the brain and body by removing interference to the nervous system. If there is interference to the nervous system, then the ability for the body to function properly has been diminished. This interference to the nervous system is termed “subluxation.”

A subluxation causes two main problems. First, the body suffers due to an imbalance of the weight of the head being off center. The effect of this can be seen in your posture: Head tilt, shoulders unlevel, poor posture, hips unlevel, appearance of a short leg, etc. Because your posture is affected the way you sit, stand and walk is now altered. Over time this imbalance will cause degeneration anywhere within your skeletal system. This imbalance later shows up as pain.

Secondly, because the nervous system is now being interfered with, there is a lack of impulse along the system. Instead of 100 % of the message getting to 100% of the cells in the body, maybe only 60% of the message is trying to regulate 100% of the body. Obviously something is not right. This is your system functioning less than perfect. This is your body not at ease. This is what is called DIS-EASE.

There is HOPE! If you are reading this then you have decided to do something vital to your survival. You have chosen to remove this interference and restore communication between the brain and body thus restoring balance and bringing your body back to EASE.

Although it is possible to receive one correction and restore this communication, maintaining the correction is vital to maintaining health. Most causes of subluxation are due to trauma. Slips, falls, bumping your head, sports injuries, car accidents, even medically assisted births are all reasons one may have this problem. Persistence of this problem is due to physical, chemical and emotional insults to our system.

Physical, chemical, and emotional stressors may contribute to the subluxation. The reason is, once an individual suffers an incident that has caused the first subluxation, the surrounding tissues, and joint structures have suffered damage and are now weak and unstable. This weakness is now exploited by other stressors into your system.

Physical stressors can be trauma, over exertion, poor posture, bad lifting habits, etc.  Chemical stressors can be smoking, drinking, lack of proper nutrients, pollution, allergens, etc.  Emotional stressors can be due to anything that causes our mental state to suffer. For example, a death in the family, going through a divorce, work, deadlines, finances, etc.

It is important that everyone understands that all three stressors are always found together. It is difficult to just have one component and not affect the other components. So what does this all mean? It means that we know that there are things within our power that we can control and manipulate so that we can live the best lives possible. It means that by changing bad habits and adopting good ones you can live a life that was meant to be lived. It means that there is a solution. There is hope.

Together, You and I can work towards giving you the best chance at living a wonderful life! It will take dedication and sacrifice. It will not be easy, but the rewards will be great. Imagine a life where you can spend time with your family, friends, and loved ones free from any type of pain. Imagine a life that is full of potential, energy, vitality. It is the way Life intended for you to live.Welcome to your new life!

INNATE INTELLIGENCE
Energy is all around us. It is the reason that everything in the universe exists today. The energy that created the universe is the same energy that flows through us this present day. This energy that we call Life is pure and eternal. Nothing can be added to it or taken away. It unites us all. Everything in the universe in connected to this energy. Life is the representation of this energy. Life knows nothing more than to keep itself going.

The representation of life is truly amazing, wonderful and awe inspiring. Man in all his knowledge could never create such wonderment as natural and perfect as Life.  Human beings have this life force that flows through them throughout the existence of their lives. It is the same pure energy that becomes us when we are united as sperm and ovum. It formed us and gave us life. It made us who we are. It gave us breath and put everything in our bodies into motion. It dictates everything within our bodies to keep us alive. It knows more about keeping us alive than we can ever know ourselves. The reason we are alive is because this energy, this life force, exists in us, flows through us.

“Innate intelligence” was the name given to this life force termed by the founder of chiropractic D.D. Palmer. It refers to the inborn intelligence that organizes, maintains and heals the body. This innate intelligence must flow freely.

PHYSICAL
Always start off at the pace right for you. Life is not a race. I know that we get excited in the beginning and at times we burn out quick. When that happens many of us just give up and go back to doing the same “patterns.” Define your goal. Remember it’s about living life the longest, healthiest and most meaningful one possible. It’s about sharing those precious moments with our friends, families and loved ones that are going to mean the most when we go, so why not have those moments be the best. Make those moments ones filled with joy, laughter, happiness and health.

Give yourself daily, weekly, monthly and yearly goals that you want to achieve. Sit back and realize that it is going to take commitment. Do not be daunted by the task ahead. Instead, look at is as a challenge. No one can do this for you. It is your calling. If you succeed, the most valuable treasure in the world awaits you.

As your body goes through postural changes it is crucial that you keep moving so that your body can start adapting to the new input from your system. Your body was in poor posture with a misalignment. The way you sat, stood and moved was altered and your body has memory of that poor posture. Now that your body is starting to balance itself out, the more information you can give it the better it can adapt.

Movement
Find time every day to do some stretches. Preferably stretching twice a day would be ideal. Stretching a few minutes in the morning after waking up, and a few minutes in the evening when you are winding down. Also, before and after working out gives you a good way to warm up and cool down.

As your body starts to unwind and center itself walking provides the proper movement and synchronization of our muscles and brings stabilization to our spine. Also, when we walk our pelvis acts as a pumping mechanism for the fluid within our spinal column. By walking, the fluid gets pumped along the column which is crucial for the vitality of our spinal cord. There is no other way this fluid is pumped and refreshed. Imagine a flowing river compared to a stagnant pool. Walking is vital.I recommend walking at least 1 hour a day. If this is too much, then work your way up to this level. If ten minutes is all you can do, then that is your starting point.

Get moving. In addition to walking, any other type of exercise will only benefit your life. Whether you dance, swim, yoga, tai chi it does not matter. Why not use this amazing body of yours and explore its potential. You might like it.  Maintain good posture in everything you do. Many people sit in chairs that are less than comfortable for long periods of time whether at work or at home. Sitting puts about 80 lbs more pressure on the spine than standing. In order to counteract this effect I recommend using a lumbar support. It mimics a spine when standing so it takes the pressure off.

If you have lots of paper work I recommend lifting your head up every 10-15 minutes and taking the tension off of your neck. Your neck will be grateful. Every 30 minutes or so get up from your desk and give yourself a good stretch. Walk to the restroom, stretch or do some push-ups. Do anything to get your body out of the stagnant position. Remember to keep your shoulders back and keep your head up. As your body becomes more balanced, your posture will come naturally.

When you are in the car, adjust your seat so that you are not craning your neck and/or leaning back too far. Adjust your mirrors so that you don’t have to put your neck in awkward positions to use them.

When you are sleeping it is best to do so on your back.

Many people have a problem with this do the curvature of their neck being either straight or reversed. Give it time. With the proper adjustments and time, your neck will re-adapt and will hopefully one day allow you to sleep on you back. If this is too difficult, then sleep on your side. When you sleep on your side please, make sure the neck and spine are level. Do not have a pillow too high or too low. It will only cause your neck more discomfort.

NEVER sleep on your stomach! This puts too much tension on your neck. When exercising or doing any sort of activity maintain good form and posture. It will prevent injury and make you look good while doing it. Keep your posture erect. Look far off into the distance every so often. You will be surprised how doing that takes a load off your neck and back.

CHEMICAL

I cannot stress the importance of a proper nutrition. Everything that we put into our body causes a chemical reaction. The better the fuel we put into our body the better the performance we get from our body. We are a society of fast food, microwave meals, and over sweetened drinks. This is killing us. The most concerned nutritionist will tell you that you should NEVER eat fast food. I know old habits are hard to break, but think of it this way.

Everything in our lives breathes. The plants, trees, flowers, fruits and vegetables all have energy. Within these things flow the very same life force that flow through us. So if its energy you want, shouldn’t we be getting it from the source. The FDA recommends that we get 9 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. Most of us don’t get that in a week. Even if that was all you ate, there would be enough energy for you to last the day. You can never have too much of it. I cannot stress how important this is.

Please, consider finding out the benefits of eating raw and how doing so can really make a difference in your life. Your body will love you.

Hydration

Human beings are composed of about 80% water. Drinking proper amounts of water is also crucial to our chemical processes. Everyone should be drinking ½ ounce of water for every pound of weight. So if you weigh 200 lbs you should be drinking 100 ounces of water a day. If you have difficulty doing so then work your way up to it. Do not think that soda, juices, coffee and other beverages are a good enough substitute. It is not. Although coffee and teas all have benefits, when it is all said and done, nothing is better than water.

EMOTIONAL
Everyone has stress. We are constantly bombarded by stress every day. Work, finances, traffic, noise, it never seems to stop. Learning to figure out ways to deal with stress will have you live a more peaceful and balanced life. You will notice that mental or emotional stress is a mind state. The faster you can adjust your thinking and take control of the situation, the sooner you will come back to balance and be at peace.Learning to deal with stress will allow us to be able to transition on to the next level which is vital for our mental health.

We are constantly learning and changing. The more in control you are in your life the more enjoyable it becomes.  Giving yourself peace of mind and stay healthy. Some of the best methods of dealing with stress are reading, prayer, exercise, walking, dancing, singing or any hobby you enjoy. Allow yourself to do something other than keeping your mind on the stress.

Do not deal with stress by drinking, smoking, or using drugs. Do not eat when you are stressed! It will start a cycle that will kill you slowly. Acceptance of yourself is vital to controlling the world around you. The truth is the only thing in this world that you can control is yourself. When you understand and realize the magnitude of this, it will have a profound impact on your life. The way you see things will change. Instead of being the victim now you have the power to change the environment around you by making changes within yourself.

PUT IT TOGETHER
Nothing is more important than your health, nothing. No amount of money, no house, no car, no wardrobe, no (whatever you think is important) is worth your health. Without your health you are nothing. You become hopeless, miserable, irritated, disinterested. The life that was given to you was not accidental. It was with a purpose. That purpose is for you to live life to its fullest.

We are blessed with this body which communicates with the world through our senses. We see, smell, touch, taste and feel the world around us in all its glory. This is possible because of our nervous system. It is the link between you and the rest of the universe.

The life that flows through you is greater than yourself.

Live well and enjoy your LIFE!
